BROKENNESS – (A good preacher became a great preacher)

Is. 6:1-8

 

I.          He saw

            A)  The Lord – vs. 1 – The King – vs. 5

            B)  The Throne  – vs. 1 – high and lifted up

                        –the exalted position of the Lord

            C)  The train of His robe – vs. 1 –

                        –the fringe of the garment filled the temple

            D)  The seraphim – angels – vs. 2

                        –six wings – 2 covered face – 2 covered feet – 2 flew

            E)  The smoke – vs. 4 – symbolizes the holiness of God

 

II.        He heard

            A)  Praise – vs. 3 – Angel – “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts” – 3 Holys –Trinity

            B)  Instruction – vs. 7 – “your sin is atoned for”

                        –the burning coal off the altar touched his lips

            C)  The Lord – vs. 8 – “Whom shall I send?”

            D)  His response – vs. 8 – “Here am I, send me”

 

III.       He felt —

Spiritually and Emotionally

            A)  Amazement – vs. 1-3

                        –absolute awe to wonder

            B)  Regret – vs. 5 – “I am ruined, lost, not worthy to be in your presence, Lord”

            (“Justly doomed for death” – Hebrew)

            C)  Relief – vs. 7 – The angel said – “Your sin and guilt is taken away”

                        –Forgiven

            D)  Rejoicing – vs. 8 – “Here am I, send me” – ready for service – Paul said, “What will you have me to do?”

Physically

            A)  Foundations tremble – vs. 4

                        — because of glory and power of God

            B)  Burning coal – vs. 6-7 – “touched his mouth” – signifying cleansing and forgiveness

 

He saw – He heard – He felt

 

I.  Confrontation

    When he saw the Lord, he saw himself

 

II.  Confession – “I am a sinner among sinners”

 

III.  Commission — “Whom shall I send?”

            Vs. – “Go” – “and say to this people”

            –deliver a message

    Isaiah did not spend the rest of his life telling about his experience.  He delivered God’s word.

 

    He was not the message – He was the messenger.
